In what has to be THE celebrity profile of 2022, Meghan Markle has appeared on the cover of US magazine The Cut's Fall Fashion issue. In the bombshell interview, Meghan reveals that she’s planning to rejoin Instagram, compares her and Harry to both salt and pepper shakers and palm trees (???), and throws plenty of subtle digs. She also promotes her new podcast Archetypes, which, all jokes aside, actually does an outstanding job at making us rethink how we view women and the stereotypes we attach to them. The Mariah Carey episode is just…woah
Other celebrity profiles we enjoyed reading this week: Mindy Kaling on being a single mum, Marcus Mumford on the secret at the heart of his debut solo album, Olivia Wilde on female pleasure (and Harry Styles), Adele on cancelling her 2021 Vegas show, and British Vogue editor Edward Enniful on being an outsider
How to be considerate of your partner’s tastes (but still have a beautiful home)
After weeks of devastating floods in Pakistan, the world has finally taken notice after videos of a massive hotel being washed away surfaced online. These grim photos in The Atlantic show the stark reality many Pakistani people are living right now
The internet served up some excellent advice columns this week, including how to support a friend through a divorce (or any kind of life-altering event), how to ask to leave work for an hour each week to go to therapy, and sage advice for a single 36-year-old woman who asks whether she should prioritise dating or resort to egg freezing
What words do you get nervous about saying out loud? This writer absolutely sees the irony that despite his job, he struggles to say loads of words. For us, tortilla (tort-ill-la) and Worcestershire (wor-shesh-ster) are just a couple of the words we avoid 😅
H&M is being sued for greenwashing and we. are. here. for. it.
If you watch one thing this week, make it this video of Emma Thompson schooling us on giving our bodies the respect they deserve. And while on the topic, here’s how your relationship with your body moulds how your children feel about themselves
As autumn falls on the northern hemisphere, ask yourself: do you actually hate pumpkin spice, or do you just hate feminine-coded trends?
A powerful story about growing up with the internet [“I don’t want to blame the internet, but I do want to blame the internet,” C said. “I feel like if I was born in 2000 B.C. in the Alps, I’d still be depressive, but I think it’s wildly exacerbated by the climate we live in.”] (TW: suicide and self-harm)
Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney came under fire this week after fans spotted her dad wearing a ‘blue lives matter’ tee in photos she posted of her mum’s 60th birthday. It begs the question, what do we want from celebrities in the wake of politically-affiliated controversies? [“What we have then is an implicit request for her to challenge these views publicly, which is in essence a request for some sort of virtue-signalling damage control. What is the endgame? Shaming her family so publicly would, of course, do little to actually achieve what people purportedly want, which is for racist people to stop being racist, and instead likely embolden them, if anything.”]
In tech news: Snapchat has launched a dual camera feature (but it isn’t copying BeReal), people are using TikTok like a search engine and it’s got google so nervous they’re pushing through a massive update, you can now pin comments on LinkedIn, Twitter is trialling ‘Tweet Tiles’ in a bid to refresh the way links appear in-feed, Google now offers out-of-home options for advertisers, and Meta is (finally) expanding its customer service team
And in other news… stuff that’s been found when bodies of water dry up, 11 tattoo regrets, getting your ears pierced at the mall, we’re all rooting for a side part comeback, what happened to waterbeds, tomato-based cocktails, moving in with a girl in her late twenties, this guy wins at LinkedIn, are nude beaches suffering at the hands of the internet, an ode to pickle juice, an unhinged story from lil’ ol’ Adelaide, this-not-that but make it houseplants, an accurate depiction of those nutty short films in art galleries, the flatware critique that made us realise that we too are flatware critics, when someone shows you their new house and apologises for everything that’s wrong with it, the girl in the 5am club, it’s the corn song but as your wedding entrance, and if London Underground lines were people
What we've been watching, cooking, listening to and reading this week...
Lizzie, managing director
Watching: The Resort on Stan. The first ep is a little slow, but I guarantee it’s worth it
Reading: A thriller, The Mother by Jane Caro, is next up on my list

Vanessa, content & strategy director
Bookmarking: This shrub recipe for summer days
Pre-ordering: Elizabeth Strout has written a fourth book in the Lucy Barton series (!!) and it’s being released on September 20. (I know I’ve banged on about these books so much but they’re honestly perfection, and I’m so jealous of anyone who gets to read them for the first time.)

Michaela, content & digital marketing specialist
Taste-testing: Chobani’s new oat-milk yoghurt
---
Ava, copywriter & content producer
Practising: Yin yoga. After each session, I feel like I’ve given my nervous system a clean slate and had a deep tissue massage. I recommend it for anyone who finds downward dog a little too daunting
Investing in: More restorative sleep. I’m obsessed with Lush’s Sleepy collection. I wear an Oura ring, so I now sleep competitively – the body wash, lotion and candle are working wonders for my sleep score

Hamish, content coordinator
Dreaming about: This sandwich. I cannot stress enough how much I’ve been thinking about this video
Cooking: Adam Liaw’s millefeuille (the cabbage stew, not the cake) after being inspired by this TikTok
Listening: This amazing cover of a song that’s been all over TikTok for months
